Building a home office to help you run your own business

August 25, 2011

People use home offices for a real variety of different things, but they are perhaps most useful if you actually run your own business from your house. Running your own business obviously takes a great deal of time and effort and you need to have a convenient place where you can carry out your daily tasks.

It is often extremely expensive to hire out office space away from home, so many business owners choose to run their venture from an office somewhere in the house. A dedicated home office is obviously the best choice because it helps to separate your professional life from your home life despite the fact you haven’t physically left the house in order to go about your work.

If you have a bedroom, spare lounge or empty box room at your disposal, then you can turn it into an effective home office with fitted home office furniture. Fitted home office furniture can be made to your specifications so that it fits perfectly into the room you’ve set aside for it and it matches the nature of your work to the required degree.

Excellent storage makes a bedroom tidier and more comfortable

August 24, 2011

A good night’s sleep is something everyone wants to be able to achieve in their bedroom. This is a lot easier if your room is nice and comfortable. Of course, this isn’t just a matter of softening your room with soft furnishings. The tidiness of your room will also contribute to the level of comfort it gives you.

Making your room tidier is a question of sorting out your storage so that nothing infringes on the floor space and free surfaces that are available to you. It is usually the visible mess that makes it hard to get comfortable in a room, so if you can arrange your furniture so that it will accommodate all your belongings with room to spare then you’ll be laughing.

Fitted wardrobes and other items of fitted bedroom furniture represent the ideal because they are made to work perfectly with the dimensions of your room, improving your options concerning storage without actually causing you to lose any precious free floor space. The result is that you can get everything away tidily and you can enjoy the relaxing and comfortable atmosphere of a neat bedroom.

Free up cluttered surfaces with fitted wardrobes

August 23, 2011

In order to cope with all the things they need to fit into their bedrooms, a lot of people find that they have to pile things up on top of their wardrobes and on any free surfaces. This is something that seems to happen naturally over time as you acquire things and as you use things and then find you have nowhere suitable to store them out of sight.

Clearly, this sort of arrangement can only lead to a messier bedroom. The overall effect of piling things up on surfaces is likely to be pretty negative and you won’t fancy spending any more time in the bedroom than is absolutely necessary. You certainly won’t be able to relax or concentrate on anything in those conditions.

Fitted wardrobes are the best way of combating this problem. Fitted wardrobes can be made to fit right up to the ceiling, so you’ll no longer have to pile things on top of the wardrobe – rather those items will be able to fit inside on the higher shelves, removing any clutter from sight. Because they cope well with storage, you’ll also be able to free up surfaces.

Explore the possibility of a small library in the comfort of your own home (Part 3)

The final instalment of this article regards the kind of fitted home office furniture you should look at putting into your library in order to the get the final result you are hoping for.

Naturally, there are certain features you can’t do anything about moving to accommodate book shelves. You should leave the wall that houses the window free so that the room enjoys plenty of natural light. However, it’s nice to put your desk below the window so you have a nice view from your seat. That said, it’s not always nice to sit facing away from the door, so a table in the middle of the room might be more appropriate.

You can line a couple of walls with fitted book shelves that reach from the floor to the ceiling and that meet one another at the corner of the room. This creates the fantastic effect of having your books provide the decoration.

The opposite corner is the ideal spot for a comfortable corner sofa, with the central table completing a nice square layout. As far as finishes are concerned, darker wood finishes tend to look richer and more luxurious in a library environment.

Explore the possibility of a small library in the comfort of your own home (Part 2)

The last article introduced the idea of creating a home office in one of the rooms in your house – not with the primary aim of introducing a sterile and clinical environment in which to work (i.e. bringing the office home with you), but with the idea of making a kind of welcoming library of sorts in the comfort of your own home.

The great appeal of this kind of room is that it evokes an atmosphere of learning and of calm. The last article also began the discussion on how fitted home office furniture could actually make the pipedream of having a little library at home a reality.

Fitted home office furniture allows you to make the most of your collection of books whilst also fitting in a desk to sit at and comfortable chair of sofa where you can read or just enjoy the peace and quiet. This is because fitted furniture is better at helping you organise space than items of regular, free standing furniture tend to be.

The next instalment of this article deals with the options that are open to you in terms of the layout of your library/home office.

Explore the possibility of a small library in the comfort of your own home (Part 1)

Although a lot of people picture what they can do with their front room, bedroom or kitchen when they are finally able to give their home a bit of an interior rethink, for others the focus lies on the home office.

There’s something really lovely about being able to convert a room into an office at home. It’s important to rise the distinction between a home office and the office where you would normally work. Home offices are generally much nicer places to be and are much less sterile. The focus is not just on work – it is also about being a comfortable part of the home.

Some home offices are actually like very small scale versions of what it would be like to have a library at home, and that’s home the people lucky enough to have them often approach their interior design. They look at the opportunities available to them in terms of renovation and seek the most attractive and the most comfortable options.

Often, this means getting fitted home office furniture, partly in order to save space, but also partly to render anything possible in this incredibly useful and attractive part of the house.

Designing a home office so you have a place to apply yourself

Some people find it really hard to concentrate when they have to study or work at home. There are just too many distractions that prevent them from focusing on what they to do. Not only are there jobs around the house that will always need to be done, there are also too many more entertaining things that can end up grabbing your interest.

Furthermore, our homes are predominantly designed in such a way as to evoke a feeling of comfort and relaxation, something that really doesn’t tally with the idea of hard work and application.

What is needed in this situation is a suitable place at home where you can work. It is often the case that a spare room is much more useful as a home office than as an occasional guest bedroom – although the inclusion of a sofa bed can prepare this room for either use.

Fitted home office furniture is ideal to help organise the home office and to make it appropriate for the kind of work or study you need to do. You can also tailor certain office storage solutions to deal with exactly the resources, books and other materials you need close at hand.

The balance of fitted bedroom furniture and office furniture in student bedroom

August 15, 2011
Posted in Bedroom Furniture, Fitted Bedrooms, Office furniture — Written by Karen

If you have a student living at home then you might need to reassess their bedroom in order to make it a little bit more conducive for work as well as for relaxation. It can be very difficult for your children to press ahead with their studies at home if they find that their bedrooms aren’t really designed for it.

All you really need to do in order to make a student’s bedroom more convenient for them is to create a good balance between fitted bedroom furniture and fitted home office furniture. These two sets of furniture then cater for the two conflicting aspects of student life: hard work and time out.

The reason fitted furniture works best in this situation is purely because it helps preserve space. If you need to squeeze desk space, book shelves and other items into a room that is already looking at accommodating wardrobes, a bed and other everyday bedroom storage items, then you need everything to fit together seamlessly.

Regular furniture tends to leave gaps and fails to make the most of space – things you could never accuse items of fitted furniture of.
